More on Getting This Garden Started

Ahh, yes, more on the garden..... pretty much the only thing we talk about these days is dirt, water and plants--which is great.  We have big plans and are already making headway toward making this the best year yet for our yarden.  Yes, yarden.  Our vegetable garden has been a program that has progressively improved annually-so, this year, it is assumed to be better than the last, already.... but the enthusiastic energy we are channeling is going to catapult its aesthetics into best victory garden of eden status.   And the rest of our yard- our front yard has been a disappointment in the past--this year, we are hoping to better it.  It won't be fancy--it won't even be awesome.  It is just gonna be better--and that, I can get into.
We went to Dammann's Lawn, Garden and Landscaping Center on Saturday.  We originally planned to go to Indiana Mulch to get some dirt but, because it rained all morning, we didn't want to deal with a truckload of soppy dirt... so, it was a trip to Menards to swap a bad wheel from the wheel barrow we bought the previous weekend.... The sun broke through the clouds and we decided it would be a perfect moment to shop for some starts(at Dammann's).

I couldn't help but to love how Hayes was holding his hands behind his back walking through the rows of shelves and plants.....
We found plenty of strawberry starts to try and lots of yummy herbs.  As of now, they travel between the inside of the garage at night to the yard during the day... soon they will all be planted in our large half circle planters that Scott rescued from the dumpster at the IMA.

After airing up our new wheel, Hayes enjoyed some wheel barrow rides around the yard.
and he, of course, wanted to try pushing it for himself...
He loves spraying the hose.  Loves it.  I know one of these days I am going to be on the soaked side of that sprayer...
And Hayes found that he enjoys filling up the watering can and dunking his entire arm into the cool water.

We have this beautiful aloe plant that my sister and brother-in-law gave to us a couple of years ago.... last year we broke it up and transplanted the babies and gave several away.... but kept the Momma... over the winter, she bloomed-which was totally unexpected to us....

we enjoyed the blooms.. and last weekend, Scott broke up the family again.  We have four small pots with aloe babies waiting for new families.... and we put Momma and her eldest babes in a lovely, wide, squatty, textured pot.  It looks super chic  ...uh, between the clutter of my etsy merchandise, stacks of garden sketches and issues of Organic Gardening magazine .......in our dining room...
Scott transplanting, Oli finding shade under our laundry and Hayes walking through the yard, marveling at his Daddy's gloves he is wearing.
Hayes investigating an aloe plant... with our ferns in the background that will be soon planted in our shaded front yard... yaaaay!

More on getting our garden going to come soon.... we were able to get our first load of dirt just yesterday..... eeeeeeeeee!
