Lately, it seems that Hayes and I haven't been going to as many estate/yard sales.... partly because of budget and partly because of discipline. Not for him... for me. I have 35 items that are photographed, logo-ed, re-sized and ready to list in my shop.... but, I just can't seem to find the alone time to creatively describe and upload these items.... aaaannd, I have just about as many items hanging in waiting to be photographed.... so, it doesn't seem responsible to be out buying more merchandise if I can't handle what I have....(even though, I think....shoot! I bet I am missing out on some good deals!)
On Tuesday, I had a tip about an estate sale on the north side.... so, we packed up and went.... Here is the house it was in.
Interesting collection of decorative hand mirrors meant to hang on a wall....
some designer bags... I just usually am not that interested in those... unique is what I look for....
Silver, bronze... behind french doors in the basement....??
Hayes liked the stairs to the basement..
I found four things. Hayes found a toy fish... he carried it around and when I told him it was time to go, he said, "Oh. I better put this back where it belongs." and proceeded to the table and placed it exactly where he found it. Talk about a proud moment. The thing was 50 cents.... and although, little enough to just buy to please him... what do we need that for? And I have explained to him on plenty occasions that just because we want it doesn't mean we get it... so, on Tuesday, I think he was in sync with that mindset. Other days, he wants what he wants when he wants it.... don't we all have those days? Anyway, below: the fun patterns of the four items I purchased at that sale. A scarf, a sash and two dresses... one was knee length and had loops where a belt once was...and the other was possibly a prom dress or a bridesmaid dress.... fun floral pattern with sequin accents sewn in to highlight the petals... maybe like dew sitting ever so lightly, rolling off to drip on the ground... well, take one look and it isn't so subtle.... but the shape of the dress is classic.... I am tempted to separate the bodice from the skirt and wear the skirt...(possibly removing the less than subtle sequins....) It is drama! Sort of A-line in front and gathered in the back...and a hint of a train.. a hint. Oh, it would be nice.. but, the responsible and grounded side of me says, sell it. I will mull it over....you will see it again... will it be in my shop or here as "what I wore today".......?
Later in the day, we had to go pick up our van from the repair shop.... let us try not to wonder about that--that is a huge story about deceit, thievery, bad business and so on.....I will tell it one day--maybe when it is over (God, please let it be over soon!)...and I can formulate it into something more interesting than.... "On February 21st, we dropped our van off to be looked at.... and then..... and then....and then...." Because in the end, the world needs to know what a rip off this place is....Really. So, I didn't want to be around for the test drive.... Hayes and I dropped Scott off behind this place of business and we took off down the road to the Southport Antique Mall. It has been years since I have walked those halls. You know, I just love looking through all of that stuff. I really like to photograph it, too. That is just what I did.... I think if we had more time and Hayes had more patience, I would have taken a lot more imagery.... ahhh, for next time.
Hayes found this mask.
Look at all of those wall pockets!!!
Clear Blue
Overpriced stools and a stuffed dog....not taxidermy stuffed.... plush stuffed.
Another dog!
Hayes went to the other booth and dragged the other dog to be with the dog on the chair. Nice.
He liked this motorcycle.
Aerosmith's Walk This Way was playing on the overhead speakers.... Hayes broke out his air guitar...and apparently, his air guitar face.
I saw some lovely hats....(Scott came to join us at this point.) and Hayes wanted to wear one....here ya go, son.
specimen art...VW Bugs. I thought it looked nice... and $28... I could almost see that in Hayes's room...but he already has a black and white(or mostly gray) print of my VW Bug hanging in there....
I liked this display. That bowl in front is neat...and that red pitcher is wooden! The lamp is neat, too..and when can I resist a black and white photo? Hardly ever.
Love that this yellow phone is showcased.
See that acrylic rocking horse? ya, I want to buy that for Wilson's room. If it is there next time-it is mine....or his.
Faces.
Gaaawwww, I can't stand that those beaded purses are not mine. Just beautiful.
I wish I had time to see everything.... See the little pearlish clutch in the background? I have a longer one just like it. It is falling apart...but I bought it at a yard sale for a dime....and I love it. I didn't see the one on display here until I was reviewing this imagery.
I could look at people's booths all day. I tend to think about the sellers--who they are as much as where the stuff comes from.... they take great care (or don't) in creating an inviting, enticing environment.... Some of them, I just want to sit and relax in...and others I shop and move on.... and some are so unorganized that I hardly pay it any mind.... unless I am feeling lucky--because some of those disheveled booths are the ones that have good stuff for little money.... you just gotta feel the energy, man.
Ahhh, I am a sucker for religious paraphernalia, too.
$49 for three Barbie wigs? Okay.
Buttons.
Well, I did find several vintage Golden Books... What's Up in the Attic is right up my alley... I could so be a picker, I know it. So, we will keep that book...and the others are for Wilson. I also bought that cute apron... nice and graphic.... a little different than the others in my collection. I also bought a beaded belt that I will sell in my shop.
I would say that this Southport Antique Mall is certainly a destination.... so many booths and soooo many cases!!! I will certainly be back-maybe when I don't have to divide my attention--but, I do admit, I love having my Hayes come along with me.... ferociously playing air guitar to any great music floating through the air....
